Is Tyrion a Targaryen? The prophesied third head of the dragon or simply a Lannister Lion?

Another theory doing the rounds nowadays is that perhaps Tyrion is a Targaryen and the third dragon rider. Well in my opinion that sure could be possible going by the amount of evidence we have on the matter.

I’ll first talk about the history between Joanna Lannister, Tyrion’s mother and the mad king Aerys Targaryen which has so far not been shown in the series but has been mentioned numerous times in the books. The mad king was supposedly infatuated with Joanna and had taken certain “unwonted liberties” with Joanna in the bedding ritual after her marriage to Tywin. It is speculated that Aerys at some point raped or seduced Joanna which led to her giving birth to Tyrion.

The books describe Tyrion as having a pair of mismatched green and black colored eyes (See Shiera Seastar, a Targaryen) and hair so blonde, they almost looked white. This pronounced difference in appearance could be because of the Targaryen blood in Tyrion.

Tywin on many occasions has not hesitated in stating the fact that Tyrion is not his son. Tywin loathes his son and refuses to make him the heir to Casterly Rock as he does not believe that Tyrion could be his blood. However it could be that he raised Tyrion only because of his deep love for Joanna. Tywin once quoted “…Since I cannot prove you aren’t mine.” This could mean that he is convinced that Tyrion is not his son but cannot prove it. Also his last words were “You are no son of mine!”

You are no son of mine.

In the last episode Tyrion states that he always had a fascination for dragons and has had dragon dreams. He was also able to approach Rhaegal and Viserion (the 2 dragons) without fear. The dragons seemed to behave as though they knew Tyrion, this could be because they sensed the Targaryen blood in him.

In the House of the Undying, Dany is told that the dragon has three heads which makes it more probable that Tyrion could be the third now that he has travelled half way around the world to meet Dany.

Jon, Danaerys and Tyrion have a lot in common too, all 3 killed their mothers during childbirth and all of them have had to kill the ones they love (Ygritte, Khal Drogo and Shae).
